Christ My Song - 158
Cheerfully to work proceed - Our daily work
(Carl Johann Philipp Spitta/Richard Massie/
Johannes Thomas Rüegg)
Our daily work.
1. Cheerfully to work proceed,
in God's hand, nor idle stand;
in the morning sow thy seed,
nor at eve withhold thy hand. PDF - Midi
2. Look not out for things remote;
to the duty nigh at hand
all thy energy devote:
they who reap, first sow the land.
3. Idleness to penury tends;
diligence is greatly blessed;
when thy daily labour ends,
welcome is the evening's rest.
4. What will fail, or what succeed
man knows not until the end;
but on every virtuous deed
blessing will, we know, attend.
5. To thy daily work proceed
cheerfully at God's command;
in the morning sow thy seed,
nor at eve withhold thy hand.
Richard Massie, Lyra Domestica II, 1864, 43.
