Praise, O Lord, we know becomes us
(Thomas Kelly/Johannes Thomas Rüegg)

Praise, O Lord, we know becomes us

"Sing praises to God." (Psalm 47,6)

1. Praise, O Lord, we know becomes us,
  praise to thee, for thou art good;
sad it is that sin benumbs us,
  and we cannot, though we would.
    Send thy Spirit from above,
    and our hearts will glow with love. PDF - Midi

2. When our hearts with love are glowing,
  then our pleasure is in praise;
come, O Lord, this grace bestowing,
  then our cheerful songs we’ll raise;
    then with feeling will we sing,
    Glory, glory to our King.

3. When we think how much we owe thee,
  then it is we feel our shame;
were we such as those who know thee
  should be, how we’d love thy name!
    How we’d glory in the cross,
    counting all for it but loss.

4. Lord, how cold our love to thee is,
  cold to what it ought to be;
yet we know how blessed he is,
  he who lives, O Lord, to thee:
    he who deeply feels thy love:
    he whose joys are from above.

5. Such we know thy people should be;
  Saviour! cause it to be so;
such we trust thy people would be,
  but the work is thine to do.
    Pow’r and grace are thine, O Lord,
    save, according to thy word.

6. All the things that here surround us,
  fleeting are and vain at best:
many chains that erewhile bound us,
  thou hast broken – break the rest:
    every one that still remains,
    break it, Lord; we loath our chains.
