Christ My Song - 1297
Saviour, send us help from heaven
(Thomas Kelly/Johannes Thomas Rüegg)
Saviour, send us help from heaven.
"As thy days, so shall thy strength be."
(Deuteronomy 33,25)
1. Saviour, send us help from heav'n,
strength proportioned to our day;
let this grace to us be giv'n ;
while we journey, speed our way,
till we reach our happy home,
whence thy people never roam. PDF - Midi
2. Nothing is there, there to harm:
all is peace, and all is love;
nothing there to cause alarm:
joy is there, all joy above.
'Tis a safe, a blessed place,
destined for the heirs of grace.
3. And we should be glad to think
that the day not distant is,
when we shall begin to drink
at the source, O think of this!
At the very fountain-head:
thither by the Saviour led.
4. Is there anything like this?
Anything like this below?
Rest on earth, a fiction is,
this we've learned, and this we know.
'Tis above that rest is found,
not on this unholy ground.
5. Rest in heav'n, and elsewhere not;
rest from care, from toil, from strife;
rest from sin, in deed and thought.
God's own gift, "eternal life":
this is, Lord, thy people's rest,
this is, to be fully blessed.
6. Be it ours, O Lord, to fear;
ours to trust, to watch, to pray:
that we may at length appear,
'mong thy saints, in that bright day
when the ransomed enter heav'n
and the promised rest is giv'n.
Thomas Kelly, Hymns on various passages of Scripture, ca. 1853, Hymn 750.
