Christ My Song - 1392

Awake, awake, O arm of God!
(Thomas Kelly/Johannes Thomas Rüegg)

Awake, awake, O arm of God!

"Awake, as in the ancient days." (Isaiah 51,9)

1. Awake, awake, O arm of God!
  awake, as in the days of old;
"put on thy strength," and take thy rod,
  thy former works are not untold. PDF - Midi

2. O be, as thou wast wont to be,
  when thou didst "wound the dragon's head".
As when thou didst divide the sea,
  and through it didst the people lead.

3. O do, as thou wast wont to do,
  what time the smitten rock obeyed;
and struck, into a fountain grew,
  thy mighty pow'r was then displayed.

4. Awake, awake, O arm of God!
  that man may learn, and cease to mock;
the word of truth, be this thy rod,
  and man's proud heart the smitten rock.

5. Let streams of "godly sorrow" flow
  from hearts that never felt before;
thy mighty pow'r we thus shall know,
  O arm of God, thy mighty pow'r.

Thomas Kelly, Hymns on various passages of Scripture, ca. 1853, Hymn 440.
